Holiday Greetings,
Welcome to our fifth annual Holiday letter, where we share news of the year’s doings and feature new sculpture that Georgia has created since our last mailing. You made it onto our list one way or another, but if you would prefer not to receive any further mailings let us know – and please excuse any multiple mailings.
We are going heavy on photos and light on words this year, with headings for each section so you can scan down and see what might interest you. You are always welcome to write or call for more information or request a visit to the studio. Contact information is below and on the website.

“Latest News” Section of Website – Give it a look
You can reach the “Latest News” section of the website from the home page. This is a site where we can put up current information and photos very easily. It ends up containing a lot of material not on the main site, like installation photos, casual shots from around the studio, and a video of a bronze pour. You can access all of the individual postings from the “Archive” section on the right hand side. You can also get back to the main home page from a link on the top right. It is a great adjunct to the main site, so consider spending some time perusing what’s already there and then watch for new material. We are starting to make additions more frequently now that we have the hang of it.

The Bench Series / Take an Artful Load Off
The Uline Corporation commissioned Georgia to create a sculptural bronze bench for their Wisconsin campus. They were so taken with the originality and whimsy of her three proposals they wanted them all. All three have been delivered. Since molds now exist for the full size clay versions, individual benches will be available as limited editions. Many thanks to our partners, Reinmuth Bronze, for their patience and skills in casting these difficult pieces
Stumbley Duckling
Commissioned by the City of Oak Harbor as part of the Pioneer Street Improvement Project.
Washoe
A memorial to the chimpanzee who was the first non-human to communicate in a human language, the American Sign Language. Washoe lived for many years at the Human Communication Institute at Central Washington University in Ellensburg. This commission was a gift to the City from the “Friends of Washoe”. She is signing “Friend”.
Spouting Frogs and Turtle Fountain
Installed in August at the “Grove at Shrewsbury”, a very nice Shopping Center in North Eastern New Jersey. This was a great opportunity to work with the folks at Metrovation, who developed the Crossroads in Bellevue. We also worked with Turnstone Construction on the rocks and fountain infrastructure. Georgia sculpted the figures directly on the stones so the bronze versions would fit naturally, and the stones were shipped with the sculptures already attached.
Timber Wolf Mascot, Henry M. Jackson High School
Installed at the entrance to the school in Mill Creek, Washington, the sculpture is a gift from the Honor Society and the combined efforts of the last three Senior Classes.
Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, Langley, WA
A special commission for us, commemorating the life of a community leader and long time friend and supporter.
The Village, Cannon Beach, Oregon
We continue to love visiting Cannon Beach. This year the owners of a cluster of downtown buildings known as “The Village” did some beautiful renovation and purchased the “Seal Twist” as a finishing touch. As part of the deal we were persuaded to spend a leisurely three-day weekend installing the piece. The Northwest by Northwest Gallery is located in town, which provides us with good reasons to visit. Woodinville Fields, Woodinville, WA
Installed in late 2011, we did not have photos of the finished sculpture for last year’s letter.
Westcott Bay Sculpture Park
Georgia continues to show several sculptures at the outdoor Sculpture Park at Westcott Bay, on San Juan Island. If you have never made it out to this park near Roche Harbor it is worth a visit. This year we installed the Young Hawk in in a setting near the pond.
Private Installations
We helped install sculptures at two private residences this year and got permission to use these photos. The Boy’s Night Out and the Arctic Hare.
Will you be in the California Desert Valley this January?
Whidbey Island is home to many Snowbirds who head south to the California desert every winter. One of these is our friend Victory Grund, who was profoundly inspired some years ago by her introduction to working with clay, and went on to create the Old Town Artisan Studio. Located in La Quinta, the studio provides facilities where persons of all ages can reveal their artistic expressions through the medium of clay and fused glass. Studio use, blended with fee exempt instruction, is offered to numerous charities serving the interest of youth, special needs and seniors in the desert valley.
On Sunday, January 6, 2013, the Studio is presenting a “Hearts for Art” Gala Banquet at the La Quinta Resort’s Flores Ballroom. The goal is to raise funding to take art to schools and other non-profit organizations and low income areas in the valley. Georgia will be a special guest at the Gala, with a live sculpting demonstration and slide presentation of her work. On the following Wednesday the Grunds will also be hosting a casual pot-luck gathering at their home for any of Georgia’s clients and friends who may be in the area. Randy and the Rural Characters
In May the Rural Characters held their tenth annual Concert at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts in Langley. It featured all their favorite songs of Island life from over the years. They posted a number of clips on YouTube – search on “Rural Characters”. One of the songs Randy wrote was adopted by the city of Langley and used in a full-on music video production to promote the Island. Hear him sing and appear in a cameo role as the Produce Man. Our daughter Laura has stayed on in Baltimore after earning her Masters of Fine Art at the Maryland Institute college of Art. She has had remarkable attention this past year. It started with a four page feature in the prestigious “New American Paintings”, which led directly to an exhibition at the TEMP Gallery in Manhattan. She was chosen as a semi-finalist for Baltimore’s Sondheim Artscape Award, and had two solo exhibitions, at The Arlington Arts Center in Virginia and City Arts in Baltimore.
Seattle Metals Guild Lecture Series
We will be presenting to the guild on March 14, 2003, at Seattle Pacific University.
